Obama Plans to Post Personal Tweets

It is official, according to Obama’s campaign posting on its website late last week, Obama will tweet regularly from the well-known social media platform. How will you know it is from our president? He will sign his personal with “BO,” which has many meanings in the American language. We will know it is from our beloved president. Not all tweets will be from President Obama according to the campaign. They will be managing both Obama’s Twitter account and Facebook page.

Obama tweeted personally Friday evening with a warm and short welcoming to his 8.69 million followers: “a new @BarackObama From now on, #Obama2012 staff will manage this account; tweets from the President will be signed “-BO.”

The campaign justifies the change to the website by saying, “will give us new opportunities to make the most of these channels, using them not only to report what the president is doing every day but to connect to the millions of supporters who will be driving this campaign.”

Obama is the third most-followed account with Twitter users, which Twitter statistics website twittercounter.com keeps track, for everyone who is interested in such details. Obama falls behind entertainers Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber in followers.

It is obvious that Obama is campaigning for reelection. His photo accompanying his Twitter account is from his official White House photo with his 2012 campaign logo very visible at the base.

I wonder if this will give the account more authenticity. Do you think it will lead to the president interacting with followers more or is it all hype?

By the way, the account is seeking contributions or asking them to volunteer for his campaign. Go figure!
