Omnifone, a mobile music service provider, and Gracenote, a music identification service, have teamed up to offer users an easy solution for working with their personal media library in the context of a larger subscription-based service to provide synchronization across mobile devices.
The perennial problem is: if you have a song in your personal collection, you should be able to listen to it anywhere you want. The problem is, the file you have might not be the optimal format for the mobile device you are on, or you might not have the file on your mobile device. With this partnership, users would be able to create playlists at home on their PC, and then access their music on any device, listen on their phone, and then pick up while in the car. Omnifone and Gracenote have stated that the service works on a variety of different platforms, without need to worry about formating or encoding.
