We know you want lots of followers everywhere you go online, but there’s (at least) one social site where you should really stick to connecting ONLY with people you know, as it’s truly a stalker’s dream platform: Foursquare.
Do you get lots of friend requests from strangers on Foursquare? If so, you’d be wise to ignore them. You might think it’s fun to run into friends while you’re out – but this novelty would likely lose it’s luster if you had a “stranger danger” encounter while out running errands. And that’s exactly what you’re asking for when you invite strangers into your life online – especially if you’re fond of using the location-based services.
You’ll be reminded of how creepy your check-ins are (and just how much info you’re revealing about your daily activities) if you ever leave for a trip and, once home, receive an email like this:
And what follows? A list of every place you checked in while away! And a sick sense that you’ve been very, VERY foolish and should consider changing your check-in habits.
So take a moment to review your connections on Foursquare and think about what your check-ins are telling these folks about you – and whether you’re okay with them having all that info!
Do you overshare on location-based services?
