It turns out that the Samsung L870 handset that was reported to be the first phone other than the iPhone to use Apple’s Safari browser, well, isn’t.
The L870, which runs on the Symbian S60 platform, will actually use the S60 OSS browser. According to Pocket-lint, Engadget received an official statement from Samsung apologizing for the confusion.
Apparently, according to Samsung anyway, the S60 OSS browser is also known as the S60 safari browser “because both are using the same webcore platform.” Engadget, however, says that the S60 browser has never been referred to as S60 safari, which just makes the whole thing even more confusing.
