Ottaway Newspapers, the local media arm of Dow Jones, has taken its local daily Web sites mobile.

According to Sean Polay, product manager for distributed media at Ottaway, consumers who seek news and information should have access to the content they want on the platform they prefer, or the one that’s most convenient when they need the information. “We aim to serve the reader, and these mobile-friendly sites are a big step forward on that front,” he said.

The mobile sites developed out of a pilot project at the company’s Cape Cod Media Group out of Hyannis, MA. Other units that have gone mobile include Seacoast Media Group in Portsmouth, NH; Hudson Valley Media Group in Middletown, NY; Pocono Mountains Media Group in Stroudsburg, PA; San Joaquin Media Group in Stockton, CA and Southern Oregon Media Group in Medford, OR.

Ottaway’s SouthCoast Media Group in New Bedford, MA has its own mobile site powered by a third-party provider, but that site is being transitioned to the overall Ottaway mobile platform.
