Digital book distributor OverDrive has announced plans for a new browser-based digital reading platform called OverDrive Read. The platform, which is based in HTML5 and EPUB, allows readers to read eBooks without having to install an app. Instead readers can access the books using a web browser while on or offline.
Here is more from the press release: “OverDrive Read creates a URL for each title where preview, review copies, browsing and sampling can be widely and easily promoted. OverDrive Read supports both online and offline reading with configurable, industry-approved copyright protection for eBooks.”
The company, which distributes eBooks to libraries and schools, said that the platform would launch later this year, and that they will be doing demos at BEA. Follow this link to check out a demo of the interface.
