Pandora, the online streaming Internet radio service, just announced that the company’s iPhone app has surpassed two million downloads, making it the most downloaded free application in Apple’s App Store.
That’s not a bad accomplishment for five months; it makes sense, too, given that it essentially offers unlimited amounts of free music listening, along with an intelligent algorithm that groups similar kinds of music together.
The company sent out a press release encouraging mobile marketers to take advantage of the publicity, saying that so far, Best Buy, Beck’s, Target, HP, Nike, and Kraft Foods have all advertised within the app. Not coincidentally, this free hookup beats the for-pay monthly services that some carriers (even AT&T) offer for Pandora access on other handsets.
