For more than 10 years, The Project for Excellence in Journalism has been tracking traditional print and broadcast news coverage with the weekly News Coverage Index. Today, the Pew Research Center announced the launch of PEJ’s New Media Index, which will look at how the news on blogs and other social media sites compares with the mainstream media.
The inaugural edition, not shockingly, finds that bloggers and traditional journalists both focused on President Obama’s inauguration. From the index:

The New Media Index will be a regular Friday feature on PEJ’s website, Journalism.org.
