Pinterest has been working on partnering with other creative communities to make sharing on the pinboard more inclusive and less of a copyright hazard. On Wednesday, the visual pinboard turned up the volume and set up shop for Etsy, Kickstarter, 500px, Slideshare, and SoundCloud.
Now, when users pin something from any of these sites, the pin will automatically have the proper attribution. This is especially important for sites like Etsy, an online craft marketplace; and Kickstarter, a fundraising platform for independent artists, because the items that live on those sites are for sale. You’ll be able to see without clicking on a pin where it’s come from.
Pinterest has also made it easier to pin multimedia items from SlideShare, a site for sharing slideshow presentations; and SoundCloud, an audio distribution and collaboration community. Using the tool, you’ll be able to play a slideshow or listen to an audio track without leaving Pinterest.
If you’ve already pinned from these sites, your old pins will be updated automatically, although the Etsy team warns that “this will take a little time because millions of you have already been busy pinning from these great sources of content.” Pinterest has also rolled out these changes to Flickr, YouTube, Behance, and Vimeo. Happy pinning!
