The holiday shopping season is officially underway on the social Web, with Groupon and Fab offering free shipping and Twitter offering free advertising. Enter Pinterest with a much softer sell: an advent calendar of Pinterest boards.
The company is calling the calendar “30 Days of Pinspiration,” driving home its efforts to differentiate itself from other social networks through its focus on inspirational, rather than informational, content.
Each day, Pinterest will unveil a board belonging to a celebrity, brand or nonprofit that focuses on inspiration.
The first board is Katie Couric’s on Thanksgiving traditions.
The calendar will also feature boards from the NBA, Jordan Ferney of Oh Happy Day, Paula Deen and the U.S. Marine Corps, according to Pinterest.
