Planetary Omnibus: The First In-app Graphic Novel Available?

The lack of graphics novels in the Kindle ebook catalog has been a disappointment for me. Yes, I understand that the Kindle reader device is monochrome and not suitable for color comic panels. However, there are a lot of people who use Kindle apps on tablets with great color displays that would be perfect for graphic novel viewing.

Fortunately, it looks like comiXology is testing the waters for graphic novels in their iPad (iPhone) app. comiXology provides iPad apps for most of the major comic book publishers including DC and Marvel. I noticed that they collected 27 issues of a series named “Planetary: Archeologists of the Unknown” into a single Omnibus product for $24.99.

This collection will be available at this price for a week (through July 16). This is a great price for digital comics. Most comic book issues are priced at $1.99 or $2.99. The issues int the Planetary Omnibus works out to less than a dollar per issue.

The Planetary Omnibus is available through the DC Comics and comiXology apps (both free).
