Celio Redfly C8 terminal attached to HTC TyTn Windows Mobile smartphone

Celio (pronounced “see-lee-OH”) Corp. makes terminal devices named Redfly Mobile Companion that look somewhat like a netbook. Howver, these devices do not have any computational or storage capabilities. The LCD display and near full-size QWERTY keyboard are used as extensions of Windows Mobile smartphones. This means, for example, that you can work with email on a Windows Mobile smartphone using the Redfly’s larger display (7 or 8 inch LCDs) and keyboard. Many, but not all, Windows Mobile applications can be used from the Redfly’s large display and keyboard too. One notable exception is Skyfire’s browser which does not run on a display larger than 640×480. The Redfly’s display is 800×480.

In Podcast 27 I spoke with Celio Corp.’s Marketing Communciations Manager Colin Kelly Jr. about the Redfly Mobile Companion as well as a couple of new products that are due out later this year. These new products are:

- Redfly Mobile Viewer: Let any Windows computer be used as a Windows Mobile terminal. Currently in public beta testing
- Redfly Mobile Dock: A card pack sized device that lets you use your own display and keyboard to extend a Windows Mobile smartphone
- Redfly Mobile Companion for Android and BlackBerry smartphones

Podcast 27 is 40 minutes and 30 seconds long.
