This week investors are offering a hundred million pennies for your thoughts. Opinionaided, a question and answer forum similar to Quora, has announced that General Catalyst, SoftBank Capital, Draper Fisher Jurvetson and a group of angel investors have invested $1 million in seed funding expand the company’s mobile platforms, bringing the total investment to $1.2 million.
Currently, the app is available on the iTunes App Store for for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Unlike Quora, the application is designed to crowdsource questions like what to wear or which product to buy rather than to solicit expert advice from industry professionals. The recently-launched version 3.0 of the app allows users to filter responses by gender or choose which friends to ask. Options for responding to a question include giving a thumbs up or thumbs down, or posting a comment. According to the press release, users can expect as many as 12 answers within a few minutes of posting a question.
“We’re filling a pain point out there that hasn’t been solved by any other social media service, big or small,” said Opinionaided CEO Dan Kurani in a statement. “We’re delivering super-fast opinions to virtually any question on-the-fly, which has proven to be compel 50 million responses to about 600,000 questions.”
