‘Reading Rainbow’ is Our Recommended Children’s App of the Week

reading rainbowReading Rainbow is our Recommended Children’s App of the Week. This free to download reading app gives you access to limitless children books through a subscription service.

Available for iPad and Kindle, it’s a great way to get your children interested in eBooks without investing in various titles and classic Reading Rainbow video field trips. Parents can sign their child up for $9.99 per month or $29.99 for six months. The app is free to try – a download will give you access to up to five books and one free video field trip.

Let your kids experience the magic of reading with LeVar Burton. This award-winning App, for children ages 3 to 9, includes an extensive library with hundreds of quality fiction and non-fiction books plus exclusive video field trips. It’s easy for your child to find just the right book from one of our themed islands with recommended “just for you” books, customized to your child’s age and interests. New books and videos are added every week, always expanding the collection.

In this guided reading adventure, children travel to themed islands such as Animal Kingdom, Genius Academy, Awesome People and National Geographic Kids to discover books from acclaimed authors and illustrators. Children can choose from two reading modes: Read To Myself or Read To Me. In Read To Me mode, each book comes alive with audio storytelling by spoken word Grammy winner Burton himself, and his hand selected group of professional actors.

Exclusive to the Reading Rainbow service are over 100 exciting kids video field trips. These behind the scenes visits (with fascinating people and places) connect the stories children read to the world they live in. With a combination of newly produced and classic segments from the original Emmy award-winning TV show, children are transported on real-life adventures.

Parents can track their child’s reading progress in the Parent Dashboard to see books read and time spent reading. Children also earn rewards for each book read to encourage reading.
