Record Your Online Video Chat Sessions With Rounds

Rounds, the video chat app that lets you chat, play games, watch YouTube videos and do other activities with your friends, has just surpassed one million monthly active users and, to celebrate, they’ve partnered with Screenr to add new recording capabilities to their application.  Users can now record their video chat sessions, share them with their friends and even enter them into competitions.

According to a press release, “The new recording feature has been created due to an outcry of interest from users on Video Chat Rounds.  Rounds users expressed their intentions for using the new recording capabilities in a variety of creative ways, from holding and recording a chapter meeting at sister fraternities, to conducting live video chat shows with the platform’s random rounds feature.”

Rounds CEO and co-founder Dany Fishel says, “Rounds has always been about hanging out with friends, meeting new and interesting people and just having fun together.  With this exciting new feature and the rapid growth of users who are enjoying the platform and inviting their friends, Rounds will continue to lead the ‘Live Web’ sphere for years to come.”

Something that I was curious about, in regards to privacy, was whether or not a user needs the approval of his or her chat partner before he can record a chat session.  Natasha Shine, Marketing Manager at Rounds, told me, “Since essentially all we are doing is giving a sort of link to Screenr.com, a user can record a session whilst in a session without having to ask for his chat partner’s permission.  We are looking forward to getting feedback from users, and see their response to this feature.  If needed, we’ll change this behavior, of course.”

I was also interested to find out if and how Facebook’s recent video chat launch has affected Rounds, and similar Facebook video chat apps.  Natasha told me, “Rounds prides itself on being the only ‘Communitainment’ platform in the world, bringing video chat (communication) and social apps (entertainment) into one fun integrated consumer experience.  Our offering isn’t just that of a video chat platform, we offer additional layers of fun and interactivity as well.  We are pleased that such attention has been brought to Facebook chat as it has made more people aware of what fun they can have on platforms like ours.”
