Reports out of Japanese newspapers Saturday indicate Nintendo is about to introduce an updated Nintendo DS console in the coming days, one that includes new, non-gaming-related features, Wired.
Indications are that Nintendo plans to add a camera and an MP3 player to the now-four-year-old handheld, as well as an “information terminal” feature that lets users find nearby restaurants and train stations. The report said that Nintendo aims to branch out of the game industry and into the general portable consumer electronics space, particularly with regard to cell phones.
The report said it’s also possible that game developers will take advantage of at least the camera, for new in-game play possibilities.
