Life In A DayYesterday YouTube announced the launch of an exciting new project, in which world-renowned film directors Ridley Scott and Kevin Macdonald will create a feature documentary film made exclusively from YouTube submissions, showing life around the world on July 24, 2010. ‘Life in a Day’ will be made up of compelling footage submitted by YouTubers showing scenes from their lives on July 24 and is shaping up to be one of the most exciting and compelling collaborative documentaries ever made.

YouTube announced the project last night on the YouTube blog:

“Today, we’re excited to announce the launch of ‘Life in a Day,’ a historic cinematic experiment that will attempt to…document one day, as seen through the eyes of people around the world. On July 24, you have 24 hours to capture a snapshot of your life on camera. You can film the ordinary — a sunrise, the commute to work, a neighborhood soccer match, or the extraordinary — a baby’s first steps, your reaction to the passing of a loved one, or even a marriage.”

The best footage will be edited together by Kevin Macdonald, the award-winning director behind films including The Last King of Scotland, One Day in September, and Touching the Void. Macdonald is backed by executive producer Ridley Scott, director of Thelma & Louise, Gladiator, Blade Runner, Robin Hood and other classic films. ‘Life in a Day’ will premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. Contributors with YouTube clips that make it into the film will be credited as co-directors and 20 lucky contributors will be selected to attend the premiere at Sundance.

How do you take part in the ‘Life in a Day’ project? It’s simple. Just shoot your clip on July 24 and upload it to the ‘Life in a Day’ YouTube channel by July 31. This is your chance to be a part of history! Will you submit a video for Macdonald and Scott’s film?
