Atari has some great news today for anyone who fondly remembers this simulation game. According to Slide to Play, Atari plans to release new versions of Roller Coaster Tycoon next year.

This game was originally released in 1999.The goal is to run a number of theme parks. While rollercoasters are the headline attraction, the over all goal of the game was to build the park  that customers would want to come to, pay to ride games, and leave happy. It was a fairly complex simulation at the time it was released and had tasks for you to complete, optional R&D for new features, and you could even design your own rollercoasters.

This was a fun game when it came out, and thanks to the expansion packs and sequels it was still worth playing until around 2007. I think I would still be playing it, if not for the fact my CD died andI kept having more and more compatibility issues.

There aren’t any specific details yet on the gameplay or whether this new game will be based on the original game or one of the sequels, but Atari does plan to have it on the market in the first quarter of 2013.
