Flexible cell phone displays could soon appear on a handset near you. Wired reports that at a recent conference in Japan, Samsung showed off a mobile phone prototype with a flexible display that can fold just like a book.
The display is a new kind of OLED (organic light emitting diode) the company developed. OLED technology has been favored as an emerging trend as of late, due to its low power consumption and potential to be much thinner than the traditional LCDs (liquid crystal display) on today’s cell phones.
The report said that it’s possible we’ll begin to see more OLEDs on consumer cell phones, folding or otherwise, within the next two to three years. Check out the video of a Samsung handset with the display above: now that could make for some serious mobile TV.
