San Francisco Chronicle for iPad Debuts

The San Francisco Chronicle joined the iPad generation with its release of San Francisco Chronicle for iPad, which was added to the App Store Tuesday morning.

San Francisco Shutter Co. will sponsor free access to the app for 30 days, after which subscriptions will be available for $5.99 per month or $59.99 per year using Apple’s in-app purchase function.

San Francisco Chronicle for iPad features print content, breaking news, features from SFGate, access to content before it appears on the newspaper’s website, sharing content via Facebook and Twitter, the ability for users to download content for reading later, access to content from the past seven days, daily panoramic photographs, and interactive advertising. In addition, weather and traffic will be updated throughout the day, along with breaking news.

Chronicle executive vice president and editor Ward Bushee said:

We designed San Francisco Chronicle for iPad to make it easier for readers to engage with the content that matters most to them. This will complement our already strong presence in print with more multimedia and breaking news features, but still retain a similar look and feel of the printed newspaper.
