Media Life reports Latin America will be muy caliente when it comes to new internet users in the near future.
Residential connected computer use is expected to more than double in the next five years, from about 72 million to 160 million, reports the mag. Cheaper computers and broadband access are the reason for the expected explosion.
According to the Pyramid Research study, based on interviews with 3,620 people across 11 Latin American countries, the most popular use for the Web (77%) in Latin America is communicating with others — either by email or social networking. 63% use it to surf for news, entertainment or information. 28% download music and videos, just 10% use the Web to pay bills or online bank.
