Online document sharing site Scrib has introduced a new eBook subscription service. For $8.99 a month, subscribers can have access to library of bestsellers and new releases. Each month, users can check out as many digital copies as they like. The books are readable on iOS and Android apps, as well as through a web browser. It’s like Netflix for books.
Scribd launches with a partnership with HarperCollins, so the service includes titles from Neil Gaiman, John Irving and L.J. Smith, to name a few. The platform has social sharing tools, so you can socialize with friends around the books you are reading.
In the past month a number of competitors have entered this digital book subscription marketplace. Oyster offers a similar service for $9.99 a month. eReatah is a new platform that offers a different kind of service in which you pay per book, but you get to keep the digital copy of the book.
