Earlier today we posted about Stevie, a new service that is aiming to change the meaning of “Social TV” by turning your social feeds into a personalized television show. Tonight, Seattle’s KIRO TV is looking to put a whole new twist on Social TV as well with a new live show co-created by the audience on Facebook and Twitter.
Social7, hosted by KIRO TV’s Jenni Hogan, has already gotten its name and even determined its timeslot based upon the votes of fans and followers, and the show’s content is going to be based on whatever happens to be trending when the show goes live tonight.
KIRO News Director Todd Mokhtari told Cory Bergman of Lost Remote about audience involvement in the show. “First of all, they picked the time slot. We gave them three options and 7 p.m. won. Next, they picked the name. We opened it up for suggestions and they picked Social7, then we asked them, should it be ‘The Social 7 with Jenni Hogan’ or ‘Social7 With Jenni Hogan’ and in Facebook fashion, they decided to drop the ‘the.’ Next, on Thursday night, the social media audience will decide the topics by making topics trend. We have blank spots in our show that we will fill Thursday night based on what’s trending.”
Speaking of what’s trending, it’s hard to ignore the similarities between Social7 and Shira Lazar’s weekly live web show, What’s Trending. Shira and the What’s Trending team report on the hottest online trends while providing real time comment and feedback from viewers on social media.
