Simon & Schuster has launched a self-publishing platform today, including an app publishing package for authors who utilize the company’s Children’s books self-publishing package.

Prices for the initial Children’s package range from $1,599 to $8,499, and the app creation process costs between $999 for the basic ReadPlay App and $3,499 for the App Launch Campaign. The conversion process takes up to 90 days, and the company will sell the app in the Windows 8 App Store for $1.99. The writer will earn 50 percent royalties for every sale.

Here’s more about the program: “For our basic ReadPlay App service, there is a word count limit of 1,000 words. However, we can accommodate books of 1,000 words or more for an additional fee. Speak to your Publishing Consultant for a quote … ReadPlay Apps are developed to run on e-reading devices that use Windows 8.”
