Simon & Schuster Digital has relaunched the company’s website with newly redesigned home pages and mobile optimization.
The sites were built using responsive design, a tool which will automatically format the content for the device that the reader is opening it on, be it a phone, tablet or a laptop. According to the publisher, in 2012 only 11 percent of web traffic came from mobile devices. This year, 26 percent of traffic comes from mobile devices and the publisher expects that number to grow.
The new site also includes a number of new author promotional elements such as a showcase of authors Q&As and blog posts, author appearance schedules, as well as links to become a fan of an author. In addition, the redesign brings improved author pages which have larger images and better links to book retailers. In addition, there is a new billboard on the homepage to promote authors. The video on the site has also been improved and now supports HD video in a larger format player. The publisher didn’t mention any search updates in the press release, but lets hope this revamp includes improved search. Publishers notoriously have poor search engines powering their sites.
