Skyfire 1.1 on a HTC Touch Pro2 running Windows Mobile 6.1
If you’ve visited this blog before, you probably know that I’m not a Skyfire browser fan. I’ve tried versions for Nokia S60 and Windows Mobile smartphones and come away wondering why so many people are so excited about looking at a fuzzy (aliased) web browser window.
Well, since I’ve been playing with my new Touch Pro2 and Skyfire released a new version…
Skyfire 1.1 – Release Notes (Windows Mobile and Symbian)
…I decided to give it another try. The release notes say that page time loads have been improved, has updated plugins for Flash, Silverlight and Quicktime, and supports the use of the 2 and 8 keys for page-up and page-down.
Unfortunately, the Touch Pro2 is hampered by the lack of a number of keys on its QWERTY keyboard as well as totally lacking a navigation pad. So, using Skyfire or any other browser is a bit of a hassle. The TP2′s touch screen seems a bit touchy (too sensitive) too. Despite this, I have to say that Skyfire 1.1 seems to work reasonably well on the TP2.
Unlike previous versions of Skyfire which were either either never again used or uninstalled after testing, I will probably give this one a try for the next few days to see if it has a place in my Windows Mobile toolkit.
