Snoox: It’s Like Pinterest But For Social Recommendations

Today marks the launch of Snoox, a new social recommendation service that lets you share recommendations — on everything — with your friends.  It’s kind of like Pinterest, in that you create themed collections of stuff you find on the web, but instead of stuff you  just like/want/heart/wish you had, Snoox is all about sharing recommendations, from TV shows and movies to travel destinations, music, food, products, books and more.  And the best part is, you aren’t sharing and recommendations with complete strangers— you’re sharing them with your friends.

Snoox founder Guy Poreh says, “We all have our go-to friends who we ask for advice in real life, which was the inspiration behind Snoox.  You would no sooner stand in the middle of a subway car and ask a group of strangers for a recommendation for the best Italian restaurant in Manhattan, expecting a response that you can trust.  Instead, the most influential recommendations come from our real friends.  Snoox is now the single, online destination to find friends’ recommendations on absolutely anything, and to share your own favorite things.”

So how does it work?  Basically, when you head over to Snoox.com and connect your Facebook account you are prompted to add some of the things you recommend.  You can put all your recommendations into a single collection called a “display”, or create different collections for different topics, like movies, music, food, fashion, etc.  When you head to the Snoox homepage, you’ll see a collection of your friends’ recommendations as well.  Click through for more details.

If you like something that one of your friends recommends you can “Snoox It” to add it to one of your collections, and some of the recommended products even have purchasing options, letting you click to buy directly from your friend’s recommendation.

Using Snoox, you can also for recommendations from your friends on specific topics or locations—so if you’re looking for a great sushi place in Manhattan, Snoox helps you easily search through your friends’ displays to see whether any of them knows where to get the best dragon roll in NYC.  The screenshot below shows the results of a search for headphones.

I had the opportunity to play around with Snoox a bit this morning and I must say…it’s addictive!  I spent a little longer than I probably should have trying to come up with items to recommend (btw, Game of Thrones led the way — I’m slightly embarrassed to say that I watched all 20 hours of that over the weekend).

Check out Snoox for yourself and let us know what you think in the comments below!
