So This Politician Posted His House on Facebook…

If the headline reads like the set-up of a joke too good to be true, it’s not.  It’s just the latest example of politics in social media or, rather, what happens when a politician goes wild on social media.

That politician would be Representative Ron Paul, a Texas Republican who does very few things the conventional way, but a lot the ‘social media way.’

So should we really be surprised that Paul, one of the most popular politicians on Facebook, has chosen the social network as his preferred Realtor®?

Paul posted a link on his Facebook account last week to this website showcasing the 5,500 sq. ft. home in Lake Jackson, Texas, he and his wife, Carol, are selling.

Paul used social media to raise money and build an organization that made him an out-of-nowhere contender in the 2008 presidential campaign.

The congressman typically uses his Facebook page for the more conventional, political task of keeping his supporters updated on his policy positions and whereabouts.

But now, why not build on that devoted following and his 323,802 Facebook fans to make a pitch in a tough real estate market?

In just the first day alone on the Facebook real estate market, Paul’s ‘listing’ got 736 “likes” and 418 comments, but no buyers.

The asking price for the four bedroom, five bathroom home, with a swimming pool and home office too, is $325,000.

And it could be priceless years down the road.

“The same home office Dr. Paul used for 42 years,” boasts BuyRonPaulsHouse.com. “Generations of Liberty-loving kids have grown up here, and you can continue the tradition.”

Paul is also widely expected to enter the 2012 presidential race, so could a presidential museum committee be the next buyer?

Keep watching Paul’s Facebook page for that announcement too.
