Social Behavior: It’s About Time [Infographic]

Internet users spent 30 billion more minutes on social media in 2012 than they did in 2011, according to a recent study. That’s an increase of 37 percent.

Where are they spending their time? Digital marketing agency iAcquire partnered with SurveyMonkey to measure the social behavior of internet users.

The researchers learned that while Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Pinterest users are primarily in their 30s and beyond, the under-30 crowd has moved on to other sites like DeviantArt, Github, reddit, and Orkut.Pinterest showed an especially strong growth between 2011 and 2012, with the amount of pinning time increasing 1,000%. Google+ also rose 80 percent in terms of time spent on the network, while Facebook actually went down 4 percent. That said, 60 percent of younger people between the ages of 18 and 29 do use Facebook instead of email for the purposes of sharing, compared to the 75 percent of people over 45 who use email.
