How did Courtney Love celebrate her victory in a landmark Twitter libel case? By returning to the widely popular social media site and tweeting: “we won this epic battle #justice prevails. NBC News Love did not defame her former attorney on Twitter in 2010, a Los Angeles jury decided after three hours of deliberations on Friday. The jury’s verdict affirmed that they believed Love wrote the tweet, but that plaintiff Rhonda Holmes did not prove by clear and convincing evidence that the singer knew the statement was false. HollyWood Reporter There were also social media experts who took the witness stand including one hired by Love who said there was no evidence that Love’s “bought off” tweet had ever been retweeted. Love herself testified to the jury and expressed disappointment in Holmes after the attorney had once stood by her side when nobody believed that a conspiracy had been perpetuated on Kurt Cobain’s estate. Reuters The one-time Oscar nominee for her role in “The People vs. Larry Flynt” was not present in court when the verdict was returned, but she spoke to reporters afterward. “I was really happy for the firm and for me and for everybody that the case could have affected if it had been adverse,” she told the local NBC television affiliate outside the courthouse. Reminded that Holmes had sought $8 million in damages, she laughed and said, “If you could find it.
