Facebook Will Pay $15 Per User After Judge Approves Final $20M Ad Settlement (GigaOM)
Facebook will pay out $9 million to approximately 614,000 users as part of a $20 million legal settlement that is intended to compensate users for the social network’s decision to display their pictures in “sponsored stories” ads without permission. In an order filed Monday in San Francisco, U.S. District Judge Richard Seeborg gave the final thumbs up to a revised deal that will raise individual payouts to $15 each — a total that is higher than the $10 maximum proposed under an earlier version of the settlement. The payouts will only go to those who responded to a notice earlier this year (it’s too late for everyone else). Bloomberg Facebook’s market value passed $100 billion amid optimism that the world’s largest social network can bolster sales from mobile advertising. The stock increased 1.9 percent to $41.34 at the close in New York. Mashable Facebook had been valued at $100 billion on the second market in the month prior to going public in May 2012. The company initially raised $16 billion from its IPO, valuing it at just more than $104 billion. However, its market cap declined rapidly in the following months. TechCrunch It’s a good moment for Facebook. However, the firm is incredibly richly valued, which might make it ripe for a market correction, or investor profit taking. Google Finance estimates its trailing 12-month price-earnings ratio to be 207.87. Yahoo Finance lists a slightly smaller figure: 187.06. Investors are valuing Facebook as a growth company. But unlike those companies, Facebook is being priced on its future potential much more than on its near-term stream of earnings — as a glance at projected net profits tells us. Mashable reported on the new feature, saying that Facebook users who create photo albums will be able to grant access to up to 50 contributors, who will be able to share up to 200 photos apiece.

Pillsbury’s Strudel Düdeler Turns Tweets into Icing Art (AllTwitter)
Starting today, Twitter users who send a tweet to @ToasterStrudel with the hashtag #StrudelArt about “how they get their morning moving” will receive a picture of a strudel with personalized icing art based on their tweet. A team from Pillsbury will select tweets, then the message automatically gets iced onto a pastry, photographed, uploaded to a photo gallery on Toaster Strudel’s Facebook page and sent back to the submitter as a TwitPic via Twitter message.

Malicious Software Poses as Video from a Facebook Friend (The New York Times/Bits Blog)
A piece of malicious software masquerading as a Facebook video is hijacking users’ Facebook accounts and Web browsers, according to independent Italian security researchers who have been investigating the situation. The malware appears as a link in an email or Facebook message telling people that they have been tagged in a Facebook post.
