The 23-year-old criticized journalists on Twitter Monday morning, claiming that some details in a recent Forbes cover story about his startup were misreported. Forbes responded hours later with a transcript from Spiegel’s interview with the story’s author, reporter J.J. Colao, essentially proving that Spiegel misled the publication during its reporting. Business Insider According to Forbes, Mark Zuckerberg emailed Evan Spiegel to speak, and Spiegel gave a disrespectful response: “Mark Zuckerberg, the richest 20-something in history, reached out to Snapchat’s Evan Spiegel…with an invitation, delivered to his personal email account: Come to Menlo Park and Let’s get to know each other. Spiegel…responded to his role model thusly: I’m happy to meet you… if you come to me.” Spiegel’s response sounds arrogant. CNET Forbes reported that Spiegel would only sit down with the Facebook CEO if Zuckerberg came to him. Screenshots of e-mails sent in late November 2012, and posted to Twitter on Monday, suggest something else entirely. Politico Snapchat has added a high-powered K Street lobbying firm in the aftermath of a massive security breach. According to public records, Snapchat hired the firm Heather Podesta + Partners to lobby on issues related to the company’s operation and practices. USA Today In related news, odds are, cybercriminals are moving to cash in the 4.6 million customer phone numbers stolen from Snapchat. For a short time on New Year’s Day, a website allowed anyone to download all the leaked data in a spreadsheet format.

Pinterest wants to step up competition with Facebook, Google and Yahoo in the white-hot field of image recognition. The social site for pinning collections of photos has purchased VisualGraph, a two-person startup that specializes in visual search, a Pinterest spokeswoman said in an email. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
