Social Media Security Basics [Exclusive Infographic]

Did you know that Britney Spears, Lance Armstrong, and the Dalai Lama have all had their Twitter accounts hacked?  Social media is more popular than ever but unfortunately, so are viruses, malware and scams.  For this reason, it’s more important than ever before for social media users to familiarize themselves with the basics of online security.  To this end, Veracode application security testing platform has released an infographic on Social Media Security Basics.

The infographic talks about the risks of social media, how to minimize our risk of attack, and what to watch out for.  There’s a timeline of Twitter attacks, a list of the top 5 categories of Facebook spam, tips on how to create a complex password and more.  At the end of the infographic is a helpful list of pointers that can help you protect yourself from malware and scams on social networks.

The infographic ends with the conclusion that, “You don’t have to avoid all forms of Social Media to be protected, but you do have to be aware of malware and scams.  Educate employees as well on Social Media safety and best practices to reduce your company’s risk from costly losses and identity theft.”

Check out the full infographic below and let us know what you think.  Have you fallen prey to any social media scams or malware?
