Social Reactions to Time’s Person of the Year: President Barack Obama

Time has named President Barack Obama the Person of The Year, giving readers plenty to talk about now that the election is over. This year, RebelMouse is powering Time‘s official social reactions page: a real-time sampling of tweeted reactions to the news.

Some wanted to see runner-up Malala Yousafzai on the front page, the Pakistani teen activist who was nearly killed by the Taliban. Others were thrilled to be seeing Obama’s face for another four years.

Speaking of which, there’s a link to a Facebook page full of never-before-seen photos from White House photographer Pete Souza, including a cute one of the president chasing a kid in a Spider Man costume.

RebelMouse launched in June 2012 as a way to transform a static blog into a living organism that feeds on a steady flow of Facebook status updates and tweets.

Editors can use the tool to curate the reactions, positioning some to the center of the page or removing the ones they don’t need, which makes it all the more interesting that Time’s editors have made room for a variety of viewpoints — even tweets from people who are threatening to cancel their subscriptions.
