U.S. Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor went through day one of her Senate confirmation hearing, and the proceedings were streamed by just about every news-related Website in the country.
Among extra features offered by various Websites:
CNN.com: The site offered video clips of various points of the hearing, including Senate Judicial Committee chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) praising Sotomayor’s judicial experience and tearing into conservative groups for “distorting” her record; Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) calling her nomination “critical” and saying her nomination would threaten the foundation of the judicial system; Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) saying Republicans are “unnerved” by some of the nominee’s speeches; and a protestor disrupting the proceedings (below).
FOXNEWS.com published Sotomayor’s opening statement before the Senate confirmation hearing.
MSNBC.com offered a slideshow chronicling the judge’s life, as well as video clips similar to those provided by CNN, with the newest senator, Al Franken (D-Minn.), highlighted below.
ABCNEWS.com provided video clips, as well, and the Website also featured the nominee’s brother, Dr. Juan Sotomayor, on Good Morning America and a news item about Norma McCorvey, the plaintiff in the Roe vs. Wade abortion case, who is now an anti-abortion activist, being one of four protesters arrested.
CBSNews.com provided several of the same extras, including a video of Sotomayor’s opening statement (below).
