Sony BMG joined forces with international entertainment firm Dada Entertainment to create a new mobile venture. According to MediaPost, Dada Entertainment will combine content such as ringtones, full-length audio and video tracks, and mobile games with a social networking experience. The company expects to derive revenue from pay-per-download, subscriptions, and advertising.
“While SONY BMG will provide Dada Entertainment with access to its full catalog of music and video content, the company will be open to obtaining content from a variety of media providers, in addition to evaluating strategic partnerships with mobile operators,” MediaPost reported.
Given that Sony has made several huge missteps in recent years — such as handing its prized Walkman market to Apple, botching the PlayStation 3 launch, angering CD buyers with surreptitious rootkit installations on their PCs, and generally being arrogant and obnoxious to its customers — a lot is riding on new ventures such as this mobile effort.
