Sony Ericsson has finally launched PlayNow Arena, the long-awaited upgrade of its online music store PlayNow on Monday, according to MocoNews. Initially, it will be available in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
The new service now sells games and other programs, and will begin with a catalog of one million music tracks from three major labels (Sony BMG, EMI, and Warner Music). Their goal is to eventually have five million tracks from all of the major labels—which is esssentially where Amazon, Apple, Napster, and Rhapsody are, more or less. Sony Ericsson would also like to broaden the market to the rest of Europe by the end of this year and the rest of the world by 2009.
