SoundCloud 101: How to Make Your Podcasts More Social [Podcast]

Today on the Morning Media Menu, GalleyCat editor Jason Boog spoke with SoundCloud community fellow Evan Tenenbaum about the audio-sharing community. He had some excellent tips for podcasters who want to use the platform to share their content on other social media sites.

SoundCloud integrates with social networks including Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Pinterest to make it easier to distribute your audio tracks on the Web.  “Get your content on all those places,” Tenenbaum advised. “It’s about brand-building, it’s about brand recognition, it’s about acclimating your audience to help them expect that kind of engaging content on those platforms from you.” He recommends posting regularly – like once a day or once a week – so that listeners recognize your Facebook page or other profile as a destination.

One of the things Tenenbaum said he likes about sound is that “it’s easy to multitask while you’re listening.” That said, “Our attention spans are pretty short,” he warned, “especially on Facebook.” Keep the recordings down to two or three minutes on platforms where users are likely to be distracted with other activities.

SoundCloud is currently testing a podcast tool in Beta that will make it easier to record and share spoken word content on social media sites and iTunes.
