SoundCloud Announces 2012 Fellowship Winners

SoundCloud has announced the winners of its second annual Fellowship, offering support and guidance to 15 musicians, journalists, and other sound creators as they finish their projects.

The applicants were asked to record an audio introduction of themselves and their projects, explaining how they will use sound as a creative medium.

A distinguished panel of judges including Columbia University’s Sree Sreenivasan and CNN Radio’s Tyler Moody sifted through 184 proposals to find programming that would take the platform beyond music into other disciplines that could benefit from an audio platform. This could include spoken word poetry, news radio, or other forms of storytelling.

The results were stunning. Here are three that immediately draw in listeners with their unique voices:

Tiny Spark: Investigating the business of doing good: An insider’s perspective on charities and other humanitarian efforts gone awry from Emmy-nominated television and radio reporter Amy Costello.

From Here to There: What time is it? It’s showtime. New York City commuter Nadia Wilson captures the sounds and stories of public transit.

The Truth: Just in time for the November elections (and Halloween), this radio drama by Jonathan Mitchell will tell a series of political-themed horror stories.

Going forward, the content will live on the Fellowship Group page, and wherever else the listeners take it.
