Nokia has hooked up with director Spike Lee on its latest user-generated mobile movie project.
Over the next few months, aspiring filmmakers can upload video generated with their mobile device to a Nokia Web site. Lee and others from his production firm will evaluate the entries, invite viewers to vote on their favorites and then pick three winners. The winning submissions will be edited into a single three-act film, the first “social film,” if you will.
One of Nokia’s goals for the project is to “exploit the networking possibilities of mobile phones,” the New York Times reports.
The final film will debut in Los Angeles in the fall. Nokia has yet to say which, if any, mobile operators will distribute it over their networks.
