Sports Illustrated group editor Terry McDonell sought to ensure that his publication isn’t left on the bench during the iPad game, presenting a prototype of its HTML5 app at the Google I/O developer conference in San Francisco Wednesday.
McDonell called the app an “edited, curated, live, searchable take on sports that you can customize for yourself,” and he emphasized SI‘s photography, as well as the addition of video content to features and columns. SI launched an initiative in March to beef up video content on its site.
The Apple tablet supports HTML5, but does not support Adobe’s Flash.
