Spotify Launches Two Matchmaking Apps That Let You Judge Your Dates by Their Taste in Music

If you love music and you love love, here are two new apps from Spotify that can help you discover both.

“Your taste in music is one of the most common topics of conversation when meeting someone, whether they are a date or just a new friend, and it’s hugely important to have compatible tastes,” said Sten Garmark, director of platform at Spotify in a statement. “Harmony on Spotify might just be a great way to find new friends or start a new relationship!”

1. Tastebuds matches Spotify users based on which songs are in their collections of playlists and by the artists they play the most.  Users can filter the results for gender, age, and location, so no one ends up with someone twice their age who lives on another continent. From there, the potential matches can instant-message each other and share playlists. According to the app’s developers, who are two bandmates from London, 43 percent of first messages on Tastebuds get a reply.

Said Tastebuds.fm co-founder Alex Parish, “Tastebuds.fm has been connecting people using music for a number of years and we are proud to bring our unique matching experience to the Spotify platform. Spotify and Tastebuds.fm both believe that music is the most effective way of connecting people.”

2. With Fellody, users can drag and drop their Spotify playlists into the app to find friends and potential love interests who are currently into the same things. The results can also be filtered by gender, age and location to zero in on the best match.

Launched in 2011 in Zurich, Switzerland, the app already has a following in 70 counties. “After our successful launch with Spotify in Germany, we are now very happy to welcome all Spotify users on Fellody, where they might get more groupies with their taste in music than Robbie Williams during the 90’s,” said Robin Simon, co-founder of Fellody.com. “With Spotify you have the world’s music at your fingertips and Fellody gives you instant access to a worldwide community of music lovers.”
