Experience Sundance From Home In The YouTube Screening Room

Hey independent film lovers! Don’t be blue if you couldn’t make the pilgrimage to Park City, Utah for the Sundance Film Festival this year. You can check out a collection of past and present Sundance short films from home in the YouTube Screening Room.

YouTube announced today on the Official YouTube Blog that film lovers around the globe will be able to watch some of the best that YouTube has to offer on the web. They’ll be featuring four career-staring short films from past Sundance Film Festivals, four short films from past Sundance Director’s Lab participants, and twelve short films that are screening at this year’s 2011 Sundance Film Festival.

Films will be added to the YouTube Screening room over the next few weeks. The first week’s installment includes a number of new 2011 Sundance films from up-and-coming directors. There’s ‘Skateistan’, a beautiful documentary about skateboarders in Afghanistan; ‘High Level Bridge’, a dark film in which the camera is dropped from Edmonton’s High Level Bridge in memory of those who have jumped; ‘Andy & Zach’, a silly short about a guy trying to set up his life when his best friend moves out; and a cool game-themed animation called ’8 Bits’ where 8-bit and high-def go head to head.

I for one and totally psyched that I’ll be able to see at least part of Sundance on YouTube (and I’m really, really excited for the premiere of Ridley Scott’s YouTube documentary ‘Life In A Day’ on January 27!!). I think it’s cool that more and more events are being live-streamed and put on YouTube so we can virtually attend events that we wouldn’t be able to attend otherwise. I may not be able to make it to Utah, but I’m excited that this will be the first year that I get to participate in Sundance. Will you be watching Sundance content in the YouTube Screening Room?
