Supercuts, one of those salon chains that specializes in lower-cost haircuts and coloring, is testing out mobile couponing in some of its more than 2,000 locations. According to a Mobile Marketing article, the company is working with mobile coupon outfit Cellfire to trial the service at 75 New England shops.

Boston area and southern New Hampshire consumers who’ve opted in to the Cellfire database will receive discount offers including $2 off a haircut, $5 off a color service or a free shampoo with their haircut, the article says.

Cellfire corporate marketing VP Dwight Moore told Mobile Marketing that most of his company’s past offers have been product-based and that it’s “really interesting” to see more services using Cellfire. “The great thing about services is it’s recurring,” he said. “What Supercuts gets is help with frequency. This becomes a way of providing loyalty.”
