Syfy’s audience has a lot of early adopters, so it makes sense that the cable network would be making an aggressive play online and in new media.
We sat down with Syfy President Dave Howe to talk about the network’s digital strategy, as well as the efforts it is making in the videogame arena.
Syfy has been busy revamping its network of blogs, launching them as standalone sites separate from Syfy.com.
“In terms of our web strategy, we want to create a portfolio of standalone sites that all hang together, and cross fertilize and feed audiences into one another,” Howe says.
He also discussed the network’s presence on Twitter, with the @Syfy account manned by Syfy senior VP Craig Engler:
“This is like a real-time, 24-7 feedback mechanism,” Howe says. “It may not be completely objective in that if you have signed up to follow Craig on Twitter or anybody on Twitter, you are not necessarily the typical kind of passive viewer and consumer of our channel, but nevertheless it is an interesting ay for us to test things and ask questions.”
