The rescued Chilean miners may have prompted huge usage upticks for media outlets like CNN.com, msnbc.com, and Univision Interactive Media, but the thrilling tale was only good for second place on the Top 10 Most Tweeted Brands list, created by AdAge.com and social-media trend-analytics service What the Trend, as the miners were topped by South Korean boy band Super Junior.
How does the Top 10 Most Tweeted Brands list work? From the Notes section at the bottom of the AdAge.com post:
We broadly define “brands” to include major marketers (e.g., Apple) and branded products (e.g., iPad), as well as celebrity and entertainment brands (e.g., Lady Gaga, American Idol). Ad Age works with WTT to consolidate multiple threads of brand chatter (e.g., Apple, iPad, iTampon, Apple Tablet) into one position on the chart when it’s clear that related Twitter conversations are basically all about the same topic, even if they use different keywords.
The rest of the list, following Super Junior and the Chilean minors: Nobel Prize, Twitter, David Arquette-Courtney Cox, NFL, BET Hip Hop Awards, MLB, X-Factor, and The Simpsons.
