The X Factor, the singing competition reality series featuring former American Idol judge Simon Cowell as its executive producer, may not be coming to Fox until this fall, but Myspace users got a taste of it starting Tuesday, as the show hijacked the social network’s homepage.

Even though X-Factor will benefit by collaborating with Facebook, so will the social networking platform. The publicity of the show arriving in September and the massive hype due to Cowell’s fame from Idol and his huge success with X-Factor in the UK is enough to boast Facebook numbers even higher than its 550 million users worldwide.
Auditions for the 10th season of American Idol are under way, and potential contestants don’t even have to wait in line: Through Oct. 6, singers and wannabe singers between 15 and 28 can submit audition videos via MySpace.
The American Idol auditions on MySpace are an extension of our talent-discovery program as we give our users even more unique opportunities in entertainment, including our recent successful auditions programs. As most of you know, we held the MySpace Glee casting call last spring, which brought a whopping 34,000 audition submissions, more than 105 million gold stars given, and 23 million video views. American Idol is kicking off their tenth season with something a little different – they are opening up their talent search to MySpace, giving contestants the opportunity to participate in auditions from the comfort of home. Simon Fuller, creator and producer of American Idol, said “Involving MySpace means now – for the first time – artists can post their auditions online prior to attending our live auditions. We are hoping and expecting this to be the biggest ever talent search in our history.” Read more
American Idol Star Experience is a PC game that integrates with social media to allow players to create their own Idol and see how other people evaluate him or her. The game is being created by Interactive entertainment company Ludia and FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME), and will be available on May 26th to coincide with the American Idol season finale. The game is unique in that players download the PC component to create content, but anybody that has a Facebook account can view that content without the download. The game is being made by the creators of the hit Family Feud game.
Tomorrow, Capitol Records and Vanguard Records will release autographed pre-release CDs of American Idol winner Kimberly Caldwell’s album at a 60 percent discount through Peanut Labs’ Cherry Deals within a number of large Facebook games, weeks before the album goes on sale in stores.
