Tumblr Tops Blogging Service Downtime With 42 Hours Down In 2011

Last December statistics showed that Tumblr was the least reliable popular blogging service, with 47.5 hours of downtime in between October 15 and December 15, 2010. The good news is, Tumblr has shown a decrease in downtime in 2011, but it still tops the charts for blogging service downtime in 2011, clocking in at 42.1 hours down between January 1 and November 30 of this year.
Having just spotted a Tweet on Billy Crystal’s feed announcing the nine-time Oscars host would be emceeing the Academy Awards yet again in 2012, he posted the news.

Social Media Adoption and Fortune 500 Companies — Have They Reached their Peak?

Fortune Magazine annually tracks America’s largest corporations due to their influence in the business world. For this study, Academics from Center For Marketing Research Dartmouth examined the social media activity, specifically blogging, of various organizations, concluding that the biggest companies have slowed down their social media efforts and appear to be hitting a plateau.
The Evolution Of The Blogger: Which Type Of Blogger Are You? [Infographic]

Google Releases Blogger App For iOS

Blogger is one of the first successful blogging platforms that for many people provided their first introduction to blogs. Blogger was also one of Google’s first acquisitions, when the search engine company bought Pyra Labs back in 2003. Google hasn’t done a tremendous amount with Blogger and it took them a while to develop an Android app for the service, and even longer developing an iOS app, which they just announced today.

Tumblr for Android 2.0 Manages Multiple Blogs with New Interface

Android users should be ecstatic to know that the Tumblr Android app just went through a major overhaul. What an overhaul it is! It feels like a brand new experience with a revamped UI. The new app has the ability to quickly create and save posts. You can even add video and photos to your blog or follow new Tumblr blogs and manage your account from your device. iOS users received this update back in July, and now Android users are feeling the satisfaction of having the same freedom.
This will be my tenth (non-personal) blog launch/re-launch in six years. Each time I do it, I seem to forget (and re-learn) the pain that’s involved. Getting a blog off the ground is far from easy, and keeping it alive is even harder. Of the 10, five are alive and well, if in different hands, two are dead and two should be if they aren’t. For the tenth, it’s still too early to tell, but everything looks better than it has with my other launches.

3 Great Social Media Lessons From BlogWorld

I had high expectations for three of the sessions at BlogWorld Expo NY this week. And they did not disappoint.

Allow me to share with you a bit of what I learned about managing (and avoiding) a social media PR crisis, responding to attack comments on your owned media and how, without the appropriate metrics, you’re marketing blind. We’ll look at mom bloggers and the #ToyotaFail; Facebook wall moderation after a comment attack; plus News Feed Optimization — perhaps the most public secret in Facebook marketing success.

From the first professional conference I’ve attended where a session audience gasped. Twice.
