Google Begins Testing Its Augmented-Reality Glasses (The New York Times / Bits)
Yesterday, Google gave people a clearer picture of its secret initiative called Project Glass. The glasses are the company’s first venture into wearable computing. The glasses are not yet for sale. Google will, however, be testing them in public. Cnet A video of this augmented-reality experiment was posted by Google on YouTube showing someone wearing the glasses as he made his way around a variety of Manhattan venues, receiving up-to-the-minute updates as information streamed into his glasses. Bravo to Premiere New Shows with Randi Zuckerberg and ICanHasCheezburger’s Ben Huh

Bravo has given the green light to two new reality shows for tech-savvy viewers. “Our Affluencers are passionate about our content, and are the first to try new technologies and engage in social media,” said Frances Berwick, president of Bravo Media and Style in a statement. foursquare Has a Platinum Hit from Bravo On Its Hands

Bravo will preview upcoming music-competition series Platinum Hit during a March 16 panel at South by Southwest, How to Become the Next Big Hitmaker, and the cable network teamed up with foursquare to allow fans to unlock a special Platinum Hit badge by using the location-based mobile app to check in at various locations in Austin, Texas, Broadcasting & Cable reported.

Fans who earn the badge will be eligible to attend a meet-and-greet with Jewel, the host and judge of Platinum Hit, at the Spin Loft March 17, with the first 90 being admitted, according to B&C.

Bravo also teamed up with foursquare for its Watch What Happens Live New Year’s Eve special.

Lisa Hsia Upped to Executive VP at Bravo Digital Media

Bravo Digital Media elevated senior vice president Lisa Hsia to executive vice president, and she will continue to oversee the cable network’s digital businesses, including Bravotv.com and Television Without Pity, as well as emerging media including wireless, interactive TV, apps, gaming, and multiplatform programming.

Hsia’s initiatives at Bravo have included interactive technology Infoframe, social-TV component Bravo Talk Bubble, tablet and smart-phone app Bravo Now, Twitter tracker and Tweet integrator @BravoTV, and online video show Watch What Happens Live.

Prior to Bravo, she worked with NBC News, ABC News, and as a producer and director of independent documentaries.

Check In on foursquare During Watch What Happens Live: Andy’s New Year’s Eve Party and Appear on Bravo

foursquare users and Bravo fans looking to make their big break into television may have a chance on New Year’s Eve, as the cable network and the location-based mobile app are teaming up on an initiative based on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live: Andy’s New Year’s Eve Party.

Users of foursquare who follow Bravo and check in on Dec. 31, starting at 10:30 p.m. ET, may have their profile photos, first names, last initials, and hometowns air on Bravo, foursquare announced, adding that last names and personal details will not be shared.

@BravoTV Provides Twitter Environment for Bravo Fans

Bravo rolled out a browser-based tool for fans of its series who use Twitter, @BravoTV, and the cable network worked in collaboration with Twitter executives on the project, paidContent reported.

@BravoTV features talk bubble icons that vary in size and color depending on how active Twitter conversation is about that show or trending topic, according to paidContent, and fans can choose a separate environment for each Bravo series.

The dashboard also features Tweet Battle, in which users take sides on opposite ends of Twitter debates, and Just Saying, customized hashtags to prompt conversation.

Bravo Media senior vice president of digital Lisa Hsia told paidContent, “In the history of how social media has incorporated advertising, it’s usually just a banner and button situation. We wanted to get advertising more integrated.”

Hitwise: Late-Night Talk Shows Added to Rankings, Won by The Tonight Show with Jay Leno

WebNewser received the weekly television-related Web-site reports from Hitwise for the first time in three weeks, but the results for the week ending Sept. 18 came with a surprise: Late-night talk shows were added as a category, joining cable news, which debuted for the week ending July 3, as well as mainstays broadcast networks, broadcast shows, cable (adults only) shows, and broadcast and cable combined.

NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno was No. 1 in the late-night category, followed by TBS’ Lopez Tonight, and CBS’ Late Show with David Letterman.

MSNBC’s Zeitgeist topped the cable-news rankings, with Fox News Channel’s The O’Reilly Factor coming in second, and third place going to MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show.

On the broadcast charts, CBS and NBC were the top two broadcast-network Web sites, respectively, and the top three show sites were CBS’ Big Brother and Survivor, followed by Fox’s America’s Most Wanted. Fast risers were four offerings from The CW — One Tree Hill (to No. 7 from No. 22), Gossip Girl (10 from 26), 90210 (17 from 36), and The Supernatural — and Fox’s House (12 from 24).

Comedy Central’s South Park maintained its grip on the top spot for adults-only cable-network show sites, followed by MTV’s Jersey Shore and Comedy’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Fast risers were Bravo’s The Real Housewives of DC (18 from 30), Food Network’s Great Food Truck Race (19 from 45), and VH1′s VSPOT Top 20 Countdown (25 from 36).

When combining broadcast and cable shows, Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants occupied its usual No. 1 perch, with Big Brother coming in second and South Park third. Fast risers were Survivor (6 from 33), Fox’s American Idol (22 from 51), and One Tree Hill (25 from 96).
