Shh … Don't Tell Steve, But CBS Got Another Show Idea from Twitter

Perhaps encouraged by the successful debut of sitcom $#*! My Dad Says, based on Twitter feed Shit My Dad Says, CBS is developing another Twitter-themed sitcom, this one based on Shh … Don’t Tell Steve and produced by high-profile Tweeter Ashton Kutcher, The Hollywood Reporter‘s The Live Feed reports.

Shh … Don’t Tell Steve, which has more than 13,000 followers, follows the action of its creator’s jobless, drunken roommate, without the roommate knowing. The Live Feed reports that CBS TV Studios and Katalyst will produce the project; Andrew Waller and Mike Gagerman are the writer-executive producers; and Kutcher and his producing partner, Evan Goldberg, are executive producers.

The Shit My Dad Says Twitter feed was created by Justin Halpern, who was the subject of a mediabistro.com So What Do You Do Q&A earlier this month.

This Is 60 Minutes on YouTube

Continuing CBS News’ new-media blitz, the network launched a 60 Minutes channel on YouTube, which will offer stories that air on the Sunday-night broadcast on Monday mornings.

Steve Grove, head of YouTube News and Politics, wrote on the YouTube Blog:

But that’s not all: The 60 Minutes team wants to hear your feedback on the issues and the people their correspondents cover. So we’re partnering in a new program called, “Ask 60 Minutes,” where you can engage directly with their correspondents. This week, we’re featuring correspondent Lara Logan‘s story from the Afghanistan/Pakistan border, where she spent weeks with the 101st Airborne undergoing relentless attacks. The commanding officers in the piece all point to Pakistan as the staging area for attacks from foreign fighters — not only the Taliban, but Uzbeks, Chechens, Arabs, and Pakistanis, as well. Lara Logan wants to know what you think about the story:

Hitwise: Late-Night Talk Shows Added to Rankings, Won by The Tonight Show with Jay Leno

WebNewser received the weekly television-related Web-site reports from Hitwise for the first time in three weeks, but the results for the week ending Sept. 18 came with a surprise: Late-night talk shows were added as a category, joining cable news, which debuted for the week ending July 3, as well as mainstays broadcast networks, broadcast shows, cable (adults only) shows, and broadcast and cable combined.

NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno was No. 1 in the late-night category, followed by TBS’ Lopez Tonight, and CBS’ Late Show with David Letterman.

MSNBC’s Zeitgeist topped the cable-news rankings, with Fox News Channel’s The O’Reilly Factor coming in second, and third place going to MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show.

On the broadcast charts, CBS and NBC were the top two broadcast-network Web sites, respectively, and the top three show sites were CBS’ Big Brother and Survivor, followed by Fox’s America’s Most Wanted. Fast risers were four offerings from The CW — One Tree Hill (to No. 7 from No. 22), Gossip Girl (10 from 26), 90210 (17 from 36), and The Supernatural — and Fox’s House (12 from 24).

Comedy Central’s South Park maintained its grip on the top spot for adults-only cable-network show sites, followed by MTV’s Jersey Shore and Comedy’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Fast risers were Bravo’s The Real Housewives of DC (18 from 30), Food Network’s Great Food Truck Race (19 from 45), and VH1′s VSPOT Top 20 Countdown (25 from 36).

When combining broadcast and cable shows, Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants occupied its usual No. 1 perch, with Big Brother coming in second and South Park third. Fast risers were Survivor (6 from 33), Fox’s American Idol (22 from 51), and One Tree Hill (25 from 96).

Muck Rack Daily Promises 'Tomorrow’s Newspaper Today'

Much like CBS series Early Edition, which aired on the broadcast network from 1996-2000, Muck Rack Daily is aimed at bringing readers “tomorrow’s newspaper today.”

But while lead character Gary Hobson (portrayed by Kyle Chandler of Friday Night Lights fame) didn’t know why the next day’s newspaper was being delivered to his doorstep, Muck Rack Daily owner Sawhorse Media has a perfectly logical explanation: The site collects Tweets from journalists and mines information about stories they are working on.

From the About Muck Rack page:

What if you could get tomorrow’s newspaper today?

Now you sorta can, by tracking the short messages on Twitter written by the journalists who do the muckraking for major media outlets.

Muck Rack makes it easy to follow one-line, real-time reporting.

If you are a journalist on Twitter or know of anyone not yet included in Muck Rack, please let us know
